Pandanus en 10 andere exotische fruitsoorten waar je nog nooit van gehoord hebt

We houden allemaal van een goed stukje fruit. Maar hoewel we dachten dat we heel wat van de wereld wisten, is er ook nog een heleboel unknown. Zelfs op het gebied van fruit. Zoals bijvoorbeeld de onderstaande gekke vruchten.

Bij het zien van de Durian bij de Nationale Eettest, werden we al enthousiast en waren we benieuwd of er nog meer gekke vruchten zijn waar we nog niks van af wisten.

Exotische fruitsoorten

Daarom zetten we de elf gekste fruitsoorten op een rijtje. Fruitsoorten die ook jij waarschijnlijk nog niet kende. Benieuwd? Check ze hieronder, en wie weet maak je binnenkort een fruitsalade met de gekste fruitsoorten in plaats van die ‘saaie’ aardbeien, appels en ananassen…

1. Nonivrucht

Deze vrucht is niet zo heel smakelijk en wordt ook wel de Indische Moerbei genoemd. Hij geeft een sterke geur af en wordt vaak vergeleken met rotte kaas. Toch wordt deze vrucht wel veel gegeten, omdat hij zeer medicinaal zou werken.

2. Kiwano

WHAT THE FUHHHH??? Folks, I decided to go for it. You know I’m always preaching #diversityofplants , right? De Kiwano wordt ook wel de gehoorde meloen genoemd en is een combinatie tussen een soort meloen en komkommer uit Nieuw Zeeland. De fijne vrucht ziet er van de buitenkant nog best smakelijk uit, maar zodra je hem opensnijdt wordt het een wir war aan verschillende groene pitten die ook nog eens verkleurd lijken te zijn.

Deze vrucht heeft z’n comeback gemaakt door de Nationale Eettest met Paul de Leeuw. Hier werd toen een vraag over gesteld en sindsdien zijn heel wat mensen nieuwsgierig geworden naar de vrucht. Van buiten hebben ze veel weg van een cactus, maar van binnen heeft hij een romige kleur. Hij smaakt zowel scherp als fris en zoet.

4. Pitaja

De Pitaja denk je misschien nog wel te kennen of heb je waarschijnlijk een keer voorbij zien komen bij de toko. Dit is de vrucht van verschillende cactussoorten. De vrucht heeft een vrolijk kleurtje en doet qua smaak denken aan kiwi.

De Cupuazú vind je alleen terug in het Amazone gebied in Brazilië. Hij bevat onder andere veel vitaminen C en is rijk aan anti-oxidanten.

Deze vruchten hebben het meest weg van lychees alleen zien ze er van de buitenkant wel heel anders uit. De smaak is eveneens zoet en fris. De Ramboetan vindt de oorsprong van zijn naam in Ramboe, het Maleise woord voor haar.

Grote kans dat je van deze vrucht weleens hebt gehoord. De Jackfruit wordt ook wel Nangka genoemd en smaakt een beetje zoetig naar banaan en zijn bijna niet te krijgen in Nederland. Je moet je groenteboer dus lief aankijken om ervoor te zorgen dat deze vrucht een keertje kunt uitproberen. De Jack kan tot wel 1 meter groot worden en wegen variërend tot 40 kilo (!).

8. Lime Kaviaar

Twee plantaardige kaviaars: verse #tonburi (#zomercypres) en de #limekaviaar (#fingerlime). Leuk als garnering voor de komende feestdagen. @vers-bestellen.nl of je haalt het bij onze winkel in Veendam. @degezondeapotheker

Deze vrucht zit vol met wit/doorzichtige bolletjes. Als je op de bolletjes bijt, knappen ze open waarna de frisse citrussmaak vrij komt. Omdat de bolletjes op de visseneitjes lijken heet het kaviaar, fair enough.

De Cherimoya wordt ook wel de Jamaica appel genoemd. Het vruchtvlees is wittig en bevat heel veel zwarte pitten. De vrucht is erg zoet en is gewoon te koop in de betere supermarkten of toko’s. Snel uitproberen dus.

10. Mangistan

De mangistan lijkt op een bes met een leerachtige schil met daarin vier tot vijf zaden. Deze zaden zijn zoetzuur van smaak en doen aan als lychees.

De Pandanus lijkt een beetje op een ananas qua uiterlijk, maar ook als smaak. Het maakt niet uit of je hem kookt of rauw eet; het kan allebei.
