In gesprek met Kelly Wieck, designer bij BARTS

Er is een nieuwe generatie creatief talent in opkomst in Nederland. Onbevreesde creatievelingen die iets te vertellen hebben. De creatieve sector is echter een ingewikkelde, nog altijd redelijk besloten wereld. Daarom willen wij in de rubriek ‘In gesprek met’ deze ondernemende creatievelingen een podium bieden. Deze keer: een interview met Kelly Wieck, designer bij het Nederlandse modemerk BARTS.

Kelly Wieck, designer bij BARTS

BARTS ken je waarschijnlijk van de fijne mutsen en sjaals. Sind voorjaar 2019 voegde het label een swimwear collectie toe aan het portfolio, ontworpen en ontwikkeld door de Australische Kelly Wieck. Wij spraken deze inspirerende vrouw over zelfverzekerdheid, vrouwelijkheid, het creatieve proces en haar bronnen van inspiratie.

Om te beginnen met haar inspiratie, die vindt ze praktisch overal: “My inspiration comes from everywhere, it can be a bird, the ocean, architecture, people… This collection’s influence came from the tranquility and light of Bali and the vibrant colour and spirit of Havanna.”

Swimwear collectie

Een swimwear collectie is niet gek, ondanks dat je misschien niet direct de match ziet bij sjaals en mutsen. Eigenaar van BARTS en tevens man van Kelly Wieck – Bart – startte zijn carrière ooit met de verkoop van zwembroeken en accessoires in Saint-Tropez.

Zowel Bart als Kelly vond het een goed idee om hier iets mee te doen. Op die manier konden ze hun klanten in zowel de zomer als de winter bedienen. Daarnaast is Kelly zelf Australische en dat is ook te merken aan haar enthousiasme over de collectie.

“I always said “I would love to live in a bikini!” So it is a creative pleasure to be able to design them. The process usually starts on my office floor. I have tables but the floor is the place where it happens. A creative “organised” chaos! I am surrounded with paint, paper, canvases, photos, fabrics and usually two Berner Senner dogs.”

Als we vragen naar haar favoriete item uit de collectie, begint ze te lachen: “I have many favourites and I always take a few bikinis on vacation. It feels like a new outfit everyday. In this season’s collection I would have to say it is either the Sands Halter bikini or the Lourdes onepiece. The bikini as the halter top accentuates your cleverage and supports my shape without having any wires.”

Zelfvertrouwen

Helaas is het nog steeds een feit dat veel meiden zich niet helemaal lekker voelen in bikini. Nergens voor nodig, als je het ons vraagt (iedereen die een bikini draagt heeft immers een bikinibody), maar we kunnen ook niet ontkennen dat we er zelf nooit last van hebben.

Gelukkig houdt Kelly hier rekening mee in haar ontwerpen:

“I grew up on the beach in Australia and spent most of my life in a bikini so have come to know what looks and feels great on bodies. I take into account that not one female body is the same so therefore we concentrate and test that our swimwear styles flatter your natural shape while giving support to its movements.”

Verder hoopt ze dat elke vrouw zich goed voelt in haar swimwear: “I hope our swimwear makes you forget that you even have a bikini or full piece on! Women should feel confident and our styles should work in harmony with their bodies. I want them also to feel sexy and feminine and comfortable.”

Zoektocht naar de juiste bikini

Tot slot: aan wie kan je beter advies vragen over het vinden van de perfecte bikini dan aan een swimwear designer? Juist, dat dachten wij ook. Kelly Wieck heeft dan ook duidelijk advies voor iedereen die op zoek is naar de perfecte bikini of het perfecte badpak:

“You probably know your own “body language” so choose a bikini that matches your shape. It should flatter your shape while giving support of its movements, make you feel confident and sexy.”

Ze vervolgt: “Try to fit the swimwear on if possible. It may look nice on the hanger or someone else but every body type is different. Try to match the bikini to your bodyshape”

Kortom: pas de bikini of het badpak áltijd en draai een paar rondjes en spring op en neer in het pashok. Klinkt raar, maar dan weet je wel of de bikini goed op zijn plek blijft zitten én zo voorkom je gênante momenten op het strand. We hebben je gewaarschuwd.
