Eindelijk: H&M is volledig transparant over hun productieproces en je kunt nu zien waar je kleding vandaan komt

Yes – eindelijk komt H&M met wat meer transparantie over hun producten. De modeketen heeft in een persbericht aangekondigd dat ze als eerste ter wereld transparantie over hun producten op grote schaal gaan verspreiden.

En dat is goed nieuws, want deze modeketen stond niet altijd bekend om haar transparantie en duurzaamheid. Met deze zet maakt H&M zich naar eigen zeggen op voor ‘een duurzame toekomst, waarin modeliefhebbers betere keuzes kunnen maken’.

Transparant productieproces

Het is niet nieuw dat H&M duurzaamheid en een transparant productieproces hoog op de agenda heeft staan. In 2013 was de retailer de eerste die een lijst van suppliers openbaar maakte voor het grote publiek. Sindsdien is deze in te zien op hun website.

Nu wordt dat dus uitgebreid: naast bovenstaande lijst zie je tegenwoordig bij elk product ook het land van herkomst, namen én adressen van de suppliers en fabrieken en als kers op de taart het aantal werknemers per fabriek.
Naast het productieproces, worden ook de materialen onder de loep genomen.

Voorbeeld voor de mode-industrie

Met deze zet is H&M een goed voorbeeld voor de rest van de mode-industrie. Zelf zeggen ze hieronder: “We are so proud to be the first global fashion retailer of our size and scale to launch this level of product transparency. We want to show the world that this is possible. By being open and transparent about where our products are made we hope to set the bar for our industry and encourage customers to make more sustainable choices. With transparency comes responsibility, making transparency such an important factor to help create a more sustainable fashion industry”.

De productinformatie is beschikbaar op hm.com. Ook kan je gemakkelijk in de winkel een product scannen met de H&M-app en zo alle informatie over een product inzien. We hopen dat meer retailers volgen.
